As an International Board Lactation Consultant, I specialise in the more complicated issues for breastfeeding families. Over the past 20 years, I have seen far too many women cry over sore nipples, weight gain issues in their little ones, and too many health professionals are telling women that this is normal, or that they are sore because they have red hair/fair skin/big boobs/small boobs/eaten too many grapes (insert your own fable as you wish!) But I am passionate that women have the right to have accurate, evidence based information so that they can make the best possible decisions regarding feeding their babies, and the bullying and disempowerment of breastfeeding mothers has to stop.

I am also qualified Breastfeeding Counsellor with the Association Of Breastfeeding Mothers. My role within the ABM has included being part of the training team, supporting other mothers who wish to train as counsellors, I am a trustee for the charity overseeing our core values, and I am Regional Supervisor for the East, taking care of and supporting our counsellors to help new parents. In addition, I answer calls as a volunteer on the National Breastfeeding Helpline, funded by the Department of Health.

In January 2011, I trained at Southampton General Hospital to perform Frenulotomy under the guidance of Mr. Mervyn Griffiths, Neonatal Paediatric Surgeon. I am qualified and insured to divide tongue ties in babies up to the age of six months, and along with my IBCLC qualification, can assist mothers with feeding after the procedure too. For further info on tongue tie-please click the link below.

In September 2011, I participated in a documentary for the series Bumps, Babies and Beyond presented by Myleen Class. This was an exciting opportunity for me, and included mums from our breastfeeding group talking about and demonstrating breastfeeding their babies. The episode was seen by over 2.5 million viewers, and sucessfuly repeated with the Discovery Chanel. I am currently awaiting permission to share the episode on here.
